GETTING EXTRA HELP WITH OUR PRIORITY SERVICES REGISTER

The Priority Services Register is a free support service to help people in vulnerable situations. Energy suppliers and network operators offer it and each keeps its own register. You personally, or The Safeguarding Officer for Sark need to contact us directly to get you on it.

1 - CHECK IF YOU ARE ELLIGABLE.

You are eligible if you:

  • have reached your state pension age

  • are disabled or have a long-term medical condition

  • are recovering from an injury

  • have a hearing or sight condition

  • have a mental health condition

  • are pregnant or have young children

  • have extra communication needs (such as if you don’t speak or read English well).

You might still be able to register for other reasons if your situation isn’t listed. For example, if you need short-term support after a stay in hospital.

2 - HOW TO REGISTER.

Apply by contacting Joanne Godwin at the office who is responsible for maintaining the register. While your name and address details will be available internally to enable us to manage the programe; the background information that has led you to apply will be held in privacy by Joanne alone and will not be shared internally with any other staff member, Director, or owner.

You will need to provide Joanne with your contact details and as much information as you can about your needs.

3 - HOW DOES IT HELP ME?

If we were regulated by Ofgem we would be prohibited from disconnecting a property occupied by a customer eligible for the Priority Services Register during the winter months (1 October - 31 March). In the UK a customer is eligible for the Priority Services Register if they:

  • are of pensionable age

  • are disabled or chronically sick

  • have a long-term medical condition

  • have a hearing or visual impairment or additional communication needs

  • are in a vulnerable situation.

SEL has voluntarily elected to apply the scheme to our operations so that our customers have certainty over their rights and our obligations to them as a supplier.

We are also applying the "Safety Net Pledge" on your behalf. This is a pledge to never knowingly disconnect a vulnerable customer at any time of year.

This offers further protection for the most vulnerable in our society. In this instance, vulnerable customers may be customers who are unable to safeguard their personal welfare or the personal welfare of other members of the household due to:

  • age (such as younger people at home)

  • health

  • disability

  • severe financial insecurity.
